Term 3

Term 3

Since starting Be In Blossom 17 years ago the most rewarding aspect of working in this field has been seeing the essence of a community who wrap each other in warm, kindness, compassion, and encouragement. Women who offer to hold another's baby who has been restless so they can participate in some of a class; women who share the wisdom of their birth experiences and parenting journey to offer support to those yet to walk down that road to lessen their fears; women who offer to sit with another as the struggles of their day soak their cheek; and women who celebrate the successes of others. What a wonderful group of women you all are.

Weekly Classes

Weekly Classes Weekly Classes

All weekly pregnancy, postnatal, and general women’s classes will continue with the current schedule in term 3.

Private Physiotherapy consults

Due to demand few more spots have been opened up in the booking system to accommodate private consult bookings at Keperra.

Cancelation Policy:

Please respect the 4 hour cancelation policy for weekly classes.

Introductory Postnatal Courses require 48 hours for cancelation.

I ask that you avoid sending through texts and emails about cancelations and booking changes as this creates significant amounts of administration time. The booking system allows you to make your own changes to bookings. If you log into the booking system you can click on the “Your BOOKINGS” option which will show you any of your upcoming bookings. From there you can make changes (cancel or reschedule). You won’t be able to do this if you miss the cancelation period or if your credits will be expired. Please remember that 5 class passes are valid for 3 months (with the exception of women who birth part-way through a pack). These passes are discounted as an incentive for regular attendees.

Last term I attended a talk by Dr Rebecca Young on Anal Sphincter Injury and Birth Trauma. I thought I would share a couple of take home messages.

  1. Evidence to support perineal massage in last month of pregnancy reduces perineal trauma.
  2. No evidence that Epi No devices reduce perineal trauma.
  3. Conflicting evidence of perineal support at crowning to reduce perineal trauma.
  4. Perineal massage in 2nd stage reduces the risk of perineal trauma.
  5. Warm compresses during 2nd stage of labour can reduce perineal trauma.
  6. All women should be examined following birth.

I'd like to give a shout out to the incredibly welcoming and hard working staff and volunteers at the Chermside Kedron Community church. The onsite coffee shop is open Tuesday and Friday mornings to provide a relaxed and welcoming space for our community to connect. The shaded and fenced playground is a hit with our toddlers. Tables are set up both in the outside and undercover areas for you to enjoy a light snack. They provide a parent's room plus emergency sanitary items in the toilet facilities.

I would also like to thank clients who have donated toys, playpen, and bouncer for use at my Keperra reformer studio and at the church.
